Superintendent drives drunk, arrested

Drives Drunk

Superintendent David Stinson of Metropolitan School District of Decatur Township was arrested for driving drunk. His car was seen jumping a curb. The man's wife had just left him after 39 years. After admitting to this, he also admitted that this had caused him to drink more. He was very respectful and coopertive during the search and investigation.

Give your reactions to his response to the police search. Most people would be angry. What does this say about his character?

House Fire

House Fire

Recently there was a house fire in Hamilton County Indiana. The neighbor to the house called the fire department after coming home and seeing the fire at 4:30 p.m. Soon after, the home owner arrived. The controversy of this is that there were almost no fire hydrants near by. The hose for the water extended to 2,000 feet! Because of this, 12 firetrucks were at the scene.

I think that there should be a law on how many fire hydrants have to be in certain places. It is very dangerous that there wasn't enough. This couldv'e cause the entire house to burn down. The fire might even have spread. Clearly, because of the 12 trucks, there was a need for more fire hydrants. Therefore, I think that either the fire department themselves, or even the home owner, should petition for a new law on required fire hydrants or at least look into it.

Barack Obama: 60 Minutes Video

Watching this 60 minutes segment makes me think that Barack Obama is in a way, in my opinion, irresponsible. He kept blaming other people for the problems that the US is having with the economy rather than taking the blame himself. I think when he was campaigning he took on a little more than he could handle. However, I do feel that he is doing the best he can with what he has. It is really hard as an American citizen to not see the economy changing right away. Therefore, he is probably getting a lot of complaints about how it has not changed yet.

How do you feel about the rate of the economic progress in the US?

Amber: Teen Mom

Amber Portwood, a mother on the hit TV show 'Teen Mom' was recently charged for domestic battery charges in Indiana. She was seen first on the TV show hitting her ex-fiance, Gary, many times.

Violent Teen Mom

I do think that Amber deserves these charges after watching the clips of what she has done to her former partner. However, I do think that part of it gives her more publicity. This is just another way that she can get her face in the news. She, out of all of the mothers on the show, seems like the least motherly of them all. She is constantly yelling around her child. This causes an unsafe environment for her child, who she should be thinking about the most.

Kanye West at it again...

Kanye West cancelled his performance on the Today show this week after a bad interview with Matt Lauer. Lauer confronted him about his "embarrasing moment" at the VMAs when he stood in front of Taylor Swift and the entire audience claiming that Beyonce should have won.

Kanye West

Kanye West is at it again. When I first read this artice I didn't know what to think. After being confronted about his behavior on the VMAs he should have been apologizing even more. However, he was simply embarrased and now refuses to sing on the Today show. I don't understand the way he thinks. And to add to it, before even properly announcing his cancellation to the public, he tweeted that he would not be doing so. Kanye West may have some okay music, but his attitude is ridiculous.

Teen Lesbian in Mississippi

In Jackson, Mississippi, there is one young woman who is definitely making a difference in the world. After being turned down by her school district when she petitioned to go to prom with her girlfriend and wear a tuxedo, Constance McMillen, 18, felt the need to speak out. Not only did she feel the need to speak out about her petition, she was especially pushed to speak pubically when she discovered that young gay and lesbian teens were committing suicide because of bullying. She was a bully victim at her school after the district canceled their prom because of her request. Because of this, the suicide victims hit her heart pretty hard.

Teen Lesbian

I think Constance McMillen is a remarkable young woman. While I do not agree with her views on sexuality, I do agree with her stance on bullying and her right to bring her girlfriend to prom. Just because I don't believe that her views on sexuality is correct does not mean that I think that she should be punished and not be allowed to bring her girlfriend to prom. Also, she should have never been blamed for the cancellation of her prom. That was clearly the districts fault.

John Lennon Coin in in UK

Recently, UK royal issued a new coin. The coin is worth five pounds. This coin is unusual because it has John Lennon's face on it.

John Lennon Coin

I think it is crazy that people voted for an artist to become one of the few public figures in London on a special coin. However, it does seem fitting since this year marks the 70th birthday. Lennon joins William Shakespeare, Winston Churchill, Charles Darwin, Florence Nightingale in the pack of special coins. John Lennon clearly made an impact on the UK. In his hometown, Liverpool, there is an airport named after him. There is also a statue of him in the center of Liverpool.

The coin has a face value of 5 pounds (which is $8 is US currency); however it will be put up for sale for 44.99 pounds. The article said that only 5,000 of these coins will be offered for sale.

Bullying

One of the "what would you do?"s we watched this week talked about bullying. When the experiment was done using teenage boys, it was very physical. However, when the experiment was done with teenage girls, the bullies taunted the girl with words. The experiment was conducted to find out if people would step in if they saw this going on.

After seeing this video, I think I will definitely step in the next time I see someone getting bullied. I know that if I do say something, it will make a difference, not only for the person getting bullied, but also the bullies themselves. Before I saw this video, I would not have normally stepped in into something like this unless it was my friend getting bullied. Now, however, I think I will have the courage to do so.
In the video, when the boys were physically bullying another boy, more people stepped in to stop this violence. However, when the girls were only using words to taunt their victim, less people stepped in than before. Just because the girls were only using words does not mean that the person getting bullied is hurt less. Actually, the victim, especially because she is a girl, will probably be affected for her entire life.
